What you do for people vs. what you mean to people.

Every successful business or institution owns something people connect with. It goes hand in hand with becoming successful. So how do you tap into that unique engine that is a brand’s essence and use it to drive your brand forward?

Here at Content & Execution, we begin with a discovery exercise.

The first thing we identify is what you do for people. That’s usually not hard to put a finger on. Better quality. Zippier service. More favorable outcomes, etcetera.

The second is articulating what you mean to people, which is where things get tricky. Mainly because discovering the meaning of a brand goes beyond the concrete and into the realm of human behavior. It’s about how you make people feel and think about themselves. How you reflect their values, goals, ego, id, ethics, self-image, and so forth.

Even though there can be a deep chasm between "do" and "mean," bringing the two together in clear, cogent and inspiring communication can bring exciting rewards.

These nuggets of truth are difficult to mine, but invaluable once brought to the surface.
